School Health Programme at Govt. Primary School, Kakanwadi – Fifth Semester B.Sc. Nursing Students 2026
The Fifth Semester B.Sc. Nursing students of BLDEA'S College of Nursing, Jamkhandi, conducted a School Health Programme at Government Primary School, Kakanwadi, on 5th June 2026. The programme included comprehensive health screenings and assessments for children from 1st to 5th standard, along with health education sessions and first aid guidance, providing students with valuable community health nursing field experience.
Programme Inauguration
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Veerabhadrappa G. Mendagudli, Principal, BLDEA'S College of Nursing, Jamkhandi, who highlighted the importance of School Health Programmes and emphasized their role in the early identification and management of health problems among school children.
School Headmaster Mr. A. R. Kotagi welcomed the nursing students and briefed them about the school facilities, student welfare activities, health services, and the Mid-Day Meal Programme. The programme was coordinated by Ms. Savitri Janamatti, PG Nursing Tutor; Mrs. Samarin Awati, UG Nursing Tutor; and Ms. Shashikala Mudhol, UG Nursing Tutor, under the supervision of Mrs. Shivaleela Sarawad, Assistant Professor.


Health Screening & Assessment
During the programme, the Fifth Semester B.Sc. Nursing students conducted health assessments for children from 1st to 5th standard. The comprehensive screening included:
- Measurement of height and weight
- Physical examination
- Assessment of personal hygiene
- Dental health assessment
- Evaluation of nutritional status
- Identification of common health problems including anaemia, dental caries, skin infections, and worm infestation
In addition to the health screenings, students provided basic nursing care, first aid, health counselling, hygiene education, and nutritional guidance to the school children. Health education sessions were conducted using charts and posters on topics including hand hygiene, personal cleanliness, balanced diet, prevention of common illnesses, and menstrual hygiene.
The programme helped in the early detection of health problems among school children, created awareness regarding healthy lifestyle practices, and provided valuable community health learning experiences for the nursing students.
