Health Education Programme at Government Primary School, Kakanwadi Village – 2026
The Seventh Semester B.Sc. Nursing students of BLDEA'S College of Nursing, Jamkhandi, conducted a Health Education Programme at Government Primary School, Kakanwadi Village, on 5th June 2026 for students from 1st to 8th standard. The programme aimed to create health awareness and encourage the adoption of healthy habits among school children through interactive sessions, charts, posters, and practical demonstrations.
Health Education Sessions
Health education sessions were conducted both in individual classrooms and in the school premises in front of all classrooms, using charts, posters, and demonstrations to make learning interactive, informative, and effective. The topics covered included:
- Importance of personal hygiene
- Demonstration of proper handwashing techniques, followed by return demonstrations by the students
- Environmental hygiene
- Prevention and first aid measures for snake bites
- Drowning prevention and safety measures
- Menstrual hygiene education for adolescent girls
The school children actively participated in the sessions, engaged with the presenters, and clarified their doubts regarding health and hygiene practices. The use of visual aids and practical demonstrations made the sessions highly engaging and effective for the young audience.

Demonstrations & Return Demonstrations
A key highlight of the programme was the handwashing return demonstration, where school children were encouraged to practise the proper handwashing technique under the supervision of nursing students. This participatory approach significantly enhanced the children's understanding and adoption of good hygiene practices.
Dedicated sessions were also conducted on menstrual hygiene for adolescent girls, addressing an important aspect of reproductive health often neglected in school settings. The drowning prevention session included a live demonstration of rescue techniques and safety measures, adding a practical dimension to the health education programme.
The programme was organised under the guidance of Dr. Veerabhadrappa G. Mendagudli, Principal, BLDEA'S College of Nursing, Jamkhandi, and coordinated by Mrs. Shivaleela Sarawad, Assistant Professor, and Ms. Shashikala Mudhol, UG Nursing Tutor. The programme successfully enhanced health awareness among school children and promoted positive health behaviours in the community while providing valuable field experience to the nursing students.
