Educational Visit to PHC, Konnur & Subcentre – Hulyal

On 11th May 2026, the Fifth Semester B.Sc. Nursing students of BLDEA'S College of Nursing, Jamkhandi, visited the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Konnur, and Subcentre – Hulyal as part of their Community Health Nursing curriculum.

PHC Konnur – Orientation & Department Tour

The students were accompanied by Ms. Savitri Janamatti, PG Nursing Tutor, and Mrs. Samarin Awati, UG Nursing Tutor. At PHC Konnur, Mr. Sudhakar Golbhavi, Community Health Officer, provided a comprehensive orientation covering:

  • Population coverage of the PHC
  • Functions and services of the PHC
  • Staffing pattern
  • Maintenance of records and reports
  • National Health Programmes implemented at the PHC

The students visited various departments including the OPD, Immunization Room, Laboratory, Pharmacy, and Labour Room, gaining practical exposure to the functioning of primary healthcare services.

Departments Visited at PHC Konnur

Students explored the key functional areas of the PHC under the guidance of nursing staff:

2 Immunization Room Cold chain management, vaccination schedules, beneficiary records
3 Laboratory Diagnostic services available at PHC level

5 Labour Room Institutional delivery services, maternal health care

Subcentre – Hulyal

During the visit to Subcentre – Hulyal, Ms. Jayalakshmi, Community Health Officer, explained the following topics:

  • Population coverage of the Subcentre
  • Functions of the Subcentre
  • Staffing pattern
  • Maintenance of various registers

The students also observed the role of the ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwife) in home visits, community outreach activities, health education, and disease surveillance — gaining insight into grass-root-level primary health services.

Learning Outcomes

The educational visit was a valuable hands-on learning experience that effectively linked theoretical knowledge with field practice. Students gained practical understanding of:

  • Organisation and management of primary health care facilities
  • Implementation of National Health Programmes at PHC level
  • Record-keeping, reporting, and referral systems
  • The ANM's pivotal role in community health, disease surveillance, and maternal care
  • Functioning of Subcentres as the most peripheral unit of the health system
