On July 11, 2024, in observance of World Population Day, second-semester B.Sc. Nursing students of BLDEA'S College of Nursing, Jamkhandi, organized a mime show at 9:15 AM on the college premises. The event aimed to raise awareness about population control among students of neighboring PU and degree colleges. The program was coordinated by Ms. Keerti Halemani, PG Nursing Tutor, and Ms. Jyoti Mareguddi, UG Nursing Tutor, under the guidance of Dr. Veerabhadrappa G. Mendagudli, Principal.

Organised at the BLDEA'S College of Nursing campus, Jamkhandi, the program was intended to reach PU students — the future citizens of the country — with critical messages about the challenges and consequences of unchecked population growth.

Mime Performance
Sixteen second-semester B.Sc. Nursing students performed a mime highlighting the causes, problems, and solutions related to overpopulation. Using silent expression, gestures, and creative props, the performers conveyed a powerful message about the consequences of uncontrolled population growth.
The mime depicted a range of societal issues arising from overpopulation, with students holding placards representing real-world impacts:
- Crowded Population – depicting housing and space scarcity
- No Vacancy – unemployment and resource shortages
- Medical Store – strain on healthcare infrastructure
- Traffic Jam – urban congestion and transportation burden
- Tree – the importance of environment and afforestation as a solution
The performance was both informative and engaging, effectively communicating complex population issues through creative visual storytelling accessible to a diverse inter-collegiate audience.

Following the mime, third-semester student Ms. Laxmi Masali delivered a speech emphasising the importance of raising awareness about overpopulation among PU students, calling them the future responsible citizens. She stressed that understanding and addressing overpopulation is essential for creating a better world.
Dr. Veerabhadrappa G. Mendagudli, Principal, concluded the event by discussing the significant issues related to population growth and its societal impact, encouraging continued education and collective efforts towards a balanced and prosperous society.
More than 350 students from the nursing, PU, and degree colleges attended the event, along with faculty members. The audience responded positively, finding the mime show both enjoyable and informative.
