Breastfeeding Awareness Program – World Breastfeeding Week 2024 | BLDEA'S College of Nursing, Jamkhandi

On August 6, 2024, as part of World Breastfeeding Week, BLDEA'S College of Nursing, Jamkhandi, organized a Breastfeeding Awareness Program for antenatal and postnatal mothers at Taluka Hospital, Jamkhandi. The program was attended by 21 participants, including 3 antenatal and 18 postnatal mothers, who found the sessions highly informative.

Breastfeeding Awareness Sessions

The program began with a Welcome Speech delivered by Ms. Rukmini P., who introduced the theme of the 2024 World Breastfeeding Week. Following the welcome, a series of structured awareness sessions were presented by BSc Nursing students of BLDEA'S College of Nursing, Jamkhandi, covering essential topics on breastfeeding and maternal care.

Ms. Karuna M. and Ms. Suchitra P. (3rd Year BSc Nursing Students) covered the benefits of breastfeeding, highlighting its nutritional and emotional advantages for both mother and child. Ms. Radhika K. (3rd Year BSc Nursing Student) presented the correct positions of breastfeeding, demonstrating proper latch and posture techniques. Ms. Laxmi D. (Second Semester Student) discussed nutritious foods for increasing milk supply, advising mothers on dietary practices that promote adequate lactation.

Educational Demonstrations & Group Photograph

Ms. Firodosh T. (Second Semester Student) explained the importance of bonding between mother and child, emphasizing its role in the emotional and cognitive development of the newborn. Ms. Rukmini P. (3rd Year BSc Nursing Student) detailed the practice of Kangaroo Mother Care, illustrating its benefits for premature and low-birth-weight infants. Ms. Renuka P. (Second Semester Student) explained artificial feeding, discussing its role and limitations when breastfeeding is not possible.

The participating mothers expressed their appreciation for the informative sessions and the interactive approach taken by the students. The program was coordinated by Mr. Somesh Nikkam, PG Nursing Tutor at BLDEA'S College of Nursing, Jamkhandi, under the guidance of Dr. Veerabhadrappa G. Mendagudli, Principal of BLDEA'S College of Nursing, Jamkhandi.
