Psychiatric Clinical Posting at DIMHANS, Dharwad – Fifth Semester B.Sc. Nursing Students 2026
The Fifth Semester B.Sc. Nursing students of BLDEA'S College of Nursing, Jamkhandi, successfully completed a 15-day Psychiatric Clinical Posting from 16th to 30th May 2026 at the Dharwad Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (DIMHANS), Dharwad. The posting provided students with rich hands-on clinical exposure in psychiatric nursing, significantly enhancing their professional confidence and competence in delivering compassionate mental health care.
Clinical Training at DIMHANS
During the posting, students gained comprehensive hands-on experience across key areas of psychiatric nursing. They performed History Taking and Mental Status Examination (MSE), developed skills in Case Presentations and Process Recordings, and undertook detailed Drug Studies relevant to psychiatric pharmacology.
Students also received valuable exposure to Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT), Psychiatric Rehabilitation, De-addiction Services, and the management of the Outpatient Department (OPD). Additionally, they attended Theory Sessions conducted by Mental Health Experts at DIMHANS, enriching their theoretical knowledge of psychiatric nursing practices and contemporary approaches to mental health care.



Therapeutic Activities & Health Education
A distinctive and enriching aspect of the posting was students' active participation in Therapeutic and Recreational Activities facilitated at DIMHANS. These included Music Therapy, Dance Therapy, Exercise Therapy, and Health Education Sessions, which enhanced students' understanding of holistic mental health care and the therapeutic value of non-pharmacological interventions in psychiatric practice.
The posting was efficiently coordinated by Ms. Savitri Janamatti, PG Nursing Tutor, and Ms. Aishwarya Awati, UG Nursing Tutor, under the overall guidance and leadership of Dr. Veerabhadrappa G. Mendagudli, Principal, BLDEA'S College of Nursing, Jamkhandi.
