Awareness Programme on World Breastfeeding Week 2026

As part of the observance of World Breastfeeding Week 2026, the Eighth Semester B.Sc. Nursing students of BLDEA'S College of Nursing, Jamkhandi, organized an awareness programme for Antenatal Care (ANC) and Postnatal Care (PNC) mothers at the Government Hospital, Jamkhandi, on 5th August 2026, under the theme "Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life – What Works."

Introductory Session

The programme commenced with an introductory session by Ms. Arati Gudennavar, who highlighted the significance of World Breastfeeding Week and emphasized the importance of promoting optimal breastfeeding practices to improve maternal and infant health outcomes.

Educational Sessions for ANC & PNC Mothers

The students conducted educational sessions on Benefits of Breastfeeding for Mother and Baby by Ms. Arati Gudennavar; Breastfeeding Techniques – Proper Positioning, Latching, and Holding by Ms. Vandhana Chikaraddi; Importance of Colostrum and Exclusive Breastfeeding for the First Six Months by Ms. Sahana Madarkandi; and Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) – Importance and Benefits by Ms. Vandhana Chikaraddi. To facilitate effective learning, the students used posters and charts as teaching aids, encouraging active participation among the beneficiaries.

Active Participation

A total of 18 ANC and PNC mothers participated in the programme and actively engaged in the awareness sessions. The programme was coordinated by Mrs. Shivaleela Sarawad, Assistant Professor, under the guidance of Dr. Veerabhadrappa G. Mendagudli, Principal, BLDEA'S College of Nursing, Jamkhandi.
