BLDEA'S College of Nursing, Jamkhandi, organised a Guest Lecture on "POCSO: Legal Perspective by JMFC" on Monday, 23rd March 2026, at the Seminar Hall. The session was delivered by Dr. Udaykumar C. Nuchhi, Professor and Head, Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, BLDE (Deemed to be University), Vijayapur, equipping nursing students with essential knowledge on child protection law and their responsibilities in medico-legal cases.

About the Guest Lecture

The programme commenced with a warm welcome address by Ms. Deepa Vibhuti, 3rd Semester student. Mr. Mahendrakumar, PG Nursing Tutor, then introduced the guest speaker, highlighting Dr. Udaykumar's expertise in Forensic Medicine and Toxicology.

The session was inaugurated with the traditional lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries, symbolising the pursuit of knowledge. Dr. Udaykumar C. Nuchhi then delivered an informative and insightful lecture on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, covering:

  • Legal provisions and key sections of the POCSO Act
  • Role of the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) in POCSO cases
  • Procedures for reporting and handling child sexual offence cases
  • Child protection mechanisms and support systems
  • Responsibilities of healthcare professionals in managing medico-legal cases
  • Importance of sensitivity, confidentiality, and proper documentation

Presidential Address & Felicitation

In his presidential address, Dr. Veerabhadrappa G. Mendagudli, Principal, emphasised the importance of the POCSO Act in protecting children and stressed the need for healthcare professionals to have proper knowledge of the law to provide sensitive, legally sound care in such cases.

Prof. S. H. Lagali, Administrative Officer, BLDE Association, appreciated Dr. Udaykumar C. Nuchhi for his excellent and enlightening session. A memento and certificate were presented to the guest speaker as a token of appreciation from the institution.

The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Ms. Ankita M, 3rd Semester BSc Nursing student.

Learning Outcomes

The guest lecture on the POCSO Act empowered nursing students with critical knowledge about child protection legislation, medico-legal responsibilities, and the legal framework governing the reporting and handling of child sexual offence cases. Students gained a deeper understanding of their professional duties in upholding the rights of children and the importance of acting with sensitivity, accuracy, and confidentiality in such cases.
