On the occasion of World Kidney Day 2026, BLDEA'S College of Nursing, Jamkhandi, successfully organised a Guest Lecture on "Kidney Health for All: Prevention, Awareness and Care" on Friday, 13th March 2026, at the Seminar Hall. The session was delivered by Dr. Basavaraj Ugran, Consultant Urologist, Ugran Kidney Care Hospital, Jamkhandi, equipping nursing students with essential knowledge on kidney health, common kidney diseases, and the vital role of preventive care.

About the Guest Lecture

The programme commenced with a warm welcome address by Ms. Deepa Vibhuti, 3rd Semester student. Mrs. Shashikala Mudhol, UG Nursing Tutor, then introduced the guest speaker, highlighting Dr. Ugran's expertise as a Consultant Urologist at Ugran Kidney Care Hospital, Jamkhandi.

The event began with the traditional lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries, symbolising the pursuit of knowledge and enlightenment. Dr. Basavaraj Ugran then delivered an informative and insightful lecture on kidney health, covering key aspects including:

  • Importance of kidney health and common kidney diseases
  • Early signs and symptoms of kidney problems
  • Role of lifestyle modifications in preventing kidney disorders
  • Significance of adequate hydration and a balanced diet
  • Control of blood pressure and diabetes for kidney health
  • Avoidance of unnecessary medications and their impact on kidneys
  • Importance of early detection, simple diagnostic tests, and timely treatment
  • Spreading community awareness about kidney-related diseases

Presidential Address & Felicitation

In his presidential address, Dr. Veerabhadrappa G. Mendagudli, Principal, appreciated Dr. Ugran for sharing his valuable knowledge and experience. He stated that the session enhanced students' understanding of kidney health, preventive strategies, and the important role of nurses in promoting awareness and early detection of kidney-related diseases.

A memento and certificate were presented to Dr. Basavaraj Ugran as a token of appreciation from the institution. The lecture witnessed active participation from students and faculty members, who expressed positive feedback on the informative session.

The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Ms. Ankita Malakappanvar, expressing gratitude to all contributors. The programme was coordinated by Mrs. Shashikala Mudhol under the guidance of Principal Dr. Veerabhadrappa G. Mendagudli.
